KBR gets concentration camp contract

Various sources are reporting that Halliburton subsidiary Kellog, Brown, and Root have received a $385 million contract from the DHS to build detention centers, ostensibly for “an emergency influx of immigrants.” Some commentators warn that these detention centers could easily become concentration camps.

It’s possible, though, that this could just be simple graft:

There’s no guarantee that any work will be performed under the contract; if no immigration emergency or natural disaster occurs, there won’t be anything for KBR to do, said company spokeswoman Cathy Mann. (from the original press release)

So the best case is that KBR gets $385 million for doing nothing, which is basically their business model.
